How Designers Are Rethinking Small-Space Living in Toa Payoh

A 3-room flat reorganised for a single occupant who wanted room to entertain without losing storage. Clara Ng and Marcus Tan ran a single length of timber joinery along the main living wall, folding bookshelves, storage and a fold-down guest bed into one continuous piece rather than scattering separate furniture around the room.

The consolidated joinery was less about saving floor area, which it does only modestly, and more about reducing the number of separate objects the eye has to process in a small room. Fewer edges, fewer shadow lines, a calmer read overall.
